Obviously acting under the pressure of the Soviet Government, members of the Moscow synagogues issued a statement–carried today by the official Soviet news agency Tass–attacking the Israel Government and appealing to Jews in the United States and other Western countries “to use all their efforts in order to prevent the threat of war, caused by the intervention of British and American aggressors in Lebanon and Jordan.”
The statement, as quoted by the Soviet news agency, declares that “the Government of Israel and leading circles there are acting for the benefit of their overseas benefactors and are ignominiously helping the invaders in their shameful deeds.”
