Moses Smith, music critic of the Boston Transcript, and brother of Louis P. Smith, past president of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, died yesterday following a lengthy illness. He was 63;
A native of Chelsea, Mass, he was graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Instead of becoming a lawyer, he turned to journalism and became the music critic of the Boston American. He gained national acclaim in 1934 when he became the music critic of the Boston Transcript, succeeding the renowned H.T. Parker, regarded in his day as one of America’s most distinguished music critics.
