Grave disturbances of an anti-Jewish character were threatened in a memorandum submitted to the Acting High Commissioner H. C. Luke, by a Moslem delegation in the question of the Jewish right of access to the Western Wall which still continues to agitate public opinion in Palestine, following the disturbances at the Wall on Yom Kippur.
In their memorandum the Moslem delegation declared that they consider the Wailing Wall a part of the Mosque of Omar and they will therefore never permit the Jews to acquire any ownership right over it. The memorandum demanded of the government to prohibit Jews from placing or keeping at the wall any objects of worship. What the memorandum concedes to Jewish worshippers at the Wall is not to go “beyond the rights they enjoyed under the Ottoman regime.”
The Moslem Supreme Council of Palestine announced today that it was in receipt of telegrams from Moslem leaders in Haifa. Jaffa. Hebron and other places in which it was insisted that the aspiration of the Jewish people to gain full access to the Wall be opposed.
