About 8,000 of the 10,000 Jews of Rome whom the Germans are attempting to round up have succeeded in eluding the Nazi dragnet and are being hidden by friends, it is reported today by a Goteborg newspaper. A Rome correspondent of the paper says that the German occupation authorities took a census of the Italian capital’s population last week in an attempt to discover Jews and other fugitives and to count the number of refugees in the city.
