An impressive funeral was held here today for Dr. Leo Motzkin, noted Jewish statesman, who died in Paris on November 7, 1933. More than 2,000 Jerusalem Jews, headed by Dr. Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, Dr. David Yellin and Leib Jaffe, followed the funeral cortege to the cemetery on the Mount of Olives, where the body was interred.
The body of the Zionist leader was met at the dock in Jaffa by all members of the World Zionist Executive at present in Palestine. Eulogies for the dead Zionist statesman were delivered by Mayor Meyer Dizengoff of Tel Aviv, Dr. Ben Zion Mosensohn and Rabbi B. Z. Uziel. The procession then went to Kiryath Anovim where the veteran Zionist leader. Menaihem Mendel Ussishkin, spoke. The body was then placed on a train for Jerusalem.
Dr. Motzkin was noted as a life-long fighter for minority rights for Jews. He was one of the pioneer Zionist leaders and was present at every World Zionist Congress, including the first one at Basle. He was chairman of the Committee of Jewish Delegations and president of the Actions Committee of the World Zionist Organization.
