Rabbi E. Inselbuch, chairman of the Committee of the Rabbinical Board, which is arranging the demonstration declared in a statement issued: “Siberia is now being filled with those who dare to exercise the principle of freedom of worship, as it was in the days of the Czar with those who fought for political freedom.”
COLONEL LEHMAN FORMALLY NOTIFIED OF NOMINATION
The ceremony of formally notifying Col. Herbert H. Lehman of the Democratic Party’s choice of him as candidate for the Lieutenant-Governorship of New York State was held at the National Democratic Club, New York City.
In his acceptance address. Col Lehman stated: “I come by my Democracy both by conviction and inheritance. My father, who throughout his lifetime was a consistent Democrat, cast his first vote in Alabama in 1856 and one of my earliest recollections is, as a very little boy. seeing him return to our home in East Sixty-second Street where I was born, with his coat covered with wax or tallow which had dripped from the torchlight he had carried in a procession in support of Grover Cleveland in 1884.
“I have never previously aspired to or held public office but I am proud to be a candidate of my party this year because our success at the polls in November will insure the continuation of that good government initiated and so ably administered by our great leader, Alfred E. Smith, during his four terms as Governor of this State.”
