A concerted movement is on foot among leaders of the Communist Jewish Section to seize Rabbi Maase’s Synagogue, known as the Choir Synagogue, notwithstanding the recent provision by M. Dzerzhinsky that the Government had no intention of closing the famous house of worship.

The discovery of an orthodox school in a house adjoining the Synagogue is believed by the Communists to give them sufficient ground for the sequestration, the harboring of a “Cheder” being in contravention of the Soviet law.

It is significant that the Communists are seeking to create the impression the Cheder was located in the Synagogue structure and not in the house adjoining it. The EMES triumphantly announes the discovery. Rabbi Maace, who has been seriously ill since last week, admitted to the J. T. A. today he fears his Synagogue at last will be closed.
