A strong movement against Spanish participation in the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936 was in full swing here today under sponsorship of the Culture Federation for Workers’ Sport.
In a manifesto undersigned by numerous other organizations, and by many anti-fascist intellectuals and politicians, Spanish athletes are urged to oppose participation in the forthcoming Olympic Games and to demand that the Government’s grant of 400,000 Pesos for the Olympic games be used instead for the erection of gymnasiums, swimming pools and stadiums in Spain.
The German Tourist Agency here was forced to remove from its windows posters announcing the Berlin games, under threat that its show windows would be smashed.
