Premier Golda Meir told reporters at Lydda Airport this morning prior to her departure for Rumania that she was “happy about this trip” and was “looking forward to a pleasant visit and fruitful talks” with President Nicolae Ceausescu and Premier Ion Georghe Maurer. “When friends meet and talk together open heartedly on serious matters there is always hope that something will come out of it.”
Mrs. Meir promised that on her return she would conceal nothing of her trip. “If I shall meet an Arab personality I will tell about it, just as I will tell if I am not to meet any Arab,” she said. Some observers interpreted that remark as intending to forestall in advance rumors that Mrs. Meir met secretly with Arab representatives. Others saw in it a possible hint that such a meeting could occur during her Rumanian visit.
