The campaign to mobilize world opinion for the release of two Israelis held captive in Syria since Aug. 29 was brought to Italy yesterday by Mrs. Tilda Muallem, the wife of one of the victims. She arrived here with her two children and brother-in-law to appeal to civil and religious authorities to intervene with the Damascus Government.
Her husband, Sallah, and Prof. Shlomo Samueloff were passengers aboard an Israel-bound TWA airliner when it was hijacked by Arab commandos and forced to land at Damascus last August.
Mrs. Muallem was scheduled to meet with Monsignor Cornelius Rijk, head of the Vatican department for Christian-Jewish relations. She held a press conference today sponsored by various women’s organizations, the League for Human Rights and the Italo-Israel Association. The groups sent a telegram to President Saragat urging his support.
