A check for $1,000 was presented to the Young Women’s Christian Association here today by the Jewish Community Council of Mt. Vernon to help keep the 30-year-old local Y.W.C.A. center from suspending operations.
The contribution was presented to Mrs. Carl Weist, Y.W.C.A. president by former City Judge Jacob A. Bernstein, president of the Jewish Community Council, which coordinates the activities of 30 religious and social Jewish organizations. In making the presentation Judge Bernstein said the Council was “doing this, not as a matter of charity but, as a matter of duty, to support the American way of life.”
