The exiled ex-Mufti of Jerusalem, whom the British Government has held responsible for the prolonged campaign of terrorism in the Holy Land, will be barred indefinitely from Palestine, the House of Commons was informed today by Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald. Asked by David Grenfell, Laborite, whether the Government intended to authorize return of the ex-Mufti, Haj Amin el Husseini, after the White Paper’s publication, Mr. MacDonald said:
"No. His Majesty’s Government cannot lose sight of the facts that not only is the present Grand Mufti of Jerusalem head of an organization which they hold responsible for the campaign of terrorism and assassination against Britons and Jews, but also he is the head of a faction which has for many months past pursued a persistently campaign against large numbers of Arabs. They have decided therefore to exclude him indefinitely from Palestine."
Mr. MacDonald said that Arabs and Jews interned in Palestine concentration camps would be released when order was sufficiently restored and that other exiled Arab leaders would be readmitted to the Holy Land.
