Mystifying reports have appeared in the Egyptian Arab press and in leading circles here, concerning the whereabouts of Col. T. E. Lawrence, the so-called “uncrowned king of the Arabs,” otherwise known as “Private Shaw.”
Rumors here have it that he visited Cairo three weeks ago, conferring with Arab leaders. Col. Lawrence, who was responsible for organizing the desert tribes during the World War to fight Turkey, is a pronounced pro-Arab and known to be unfriendly to the Zionist policy of the British in Palestine. It is not known whether his visit to Cairo was prior or after his visit to Palestine, or where he proceeded from here, to Jerusalem or to the Sudan.
Similar rumors are current in Palestine.
