Shanghai Jewry today mourned the death of N.E.B. Ezra, editor and founder of the monthly Israel’s Messenger and fighter against anti-Semitism, who died here yesterday of heart disease at the age of 56. He was local correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
His paper, founded in 1904, bears the legend on its masthead, “A fearless exponent of traditional Judaism and Jewish Nationalism.” It is the organ of the Shanghai Zionist Association and the Jewish National Fund Commission for China.
Mr. Ezra had been active in combating anti-Semitism spread by White Russian groups here. When the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” discredited document purporting to reveal a plot for Jewish world domination, appeared here several years ago he brought out a special edition of “The History of a Lie,” the volume exposing it.
When Israel’s Messenger celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 1934, Mr. Ezra received, in addition to felicitations from Jewish groups the world over, messages of greeting from General Chiang Kai-Shek, Sun Fo, son of the late Dr. Sun Yat Sen and Dr. C.T.Wang, former Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs.
