A nine-man committee appointed by the City Council will hold public hearings soon at City Hall here to investigate the extent of racial discrimination in the selection of teachers and the admission of students in the city’s schools, it was announced today.
The committee is authorized to “examine into, study and investigate the admission practices and policies of all educational institutions within the city claiming to be non-sectarian, for the purpose of ascertaining whether, or to what extent, these institutions or any of them practice discrimination against any person or persons because of race, color, creed, religion or national origin, either in the admission of students or employment of members of their teaching staffs.”
