New York Public School No. 137 will be named after the late John L. Bernstein, a former president of Hias, it was announced here today by the Board of Education. Formal dedication of the school will take place tomorrow.
Mr. Bernstein, who died in 1952, had served Hias as chairman of the executive board as well as president. As an attorney he often defended the rights of immigrant Americans, and was one of the early advocates of a special agency to represent the interests of immigrants.
