The sum of $30,000 was raised yesterday by the New York Chapter of Hadassah as its initial contribution toward its $50,000 quota for the United Palestine Appeal.
The occasion was a “$50 Give and Get” Luncheon attended by six hundred guests, members of the Chapter. The $30,000 will be formally presented to the United Palestine Appeal at the official opening of the New York campaign on January 31st.
Mrs. Alexander Kohut was the presiding officer of the luncheon. Addresses were delivered by Judge William M. Lewis, National Chairman of the United Palestine Appeal; Mrs. Israel Goldstein, President of the Chapter; Mrs. Jacob Schwarz, Chairman of the Campaign Committee and Mrs. Matthias Radin.
A silver encased scroll of the law was presented by Mrs. Robert Szold, Acting President of Hadassah, to Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Straus. The gift was accepted by Mrs. Hugh Grant Straus in the absence of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Straus. A feature of the luncheon was the presentation of a pageant, written by Mrs. Jacob Schwarz, depicting the activities of Hadassah.
