Jewish families in New York City spend in exceas of $13,000,000 annually for religious instruction for their children, it was established by a study sponsored by the Jewish Education Committee of New York City and financed by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies.
Completing the second year of a three-year study, the Jewish Education Survey revealed today that nearly one-third of all Jewish children in the city and its suburbs attend after-school or week-end religious classes. Also, that the number of school-age children attending all-day schools is now at 18,000, a three-fold increase since 1935. An inventory and evaluation of the practices and needs of Jewish education in this city are being made with the participation of 100 educators and Jewish community leaders.
