The New York times declared editorially today that “The tortures and humiliations meted out” in the german anti-Semitic reign of terror “spring from forces far below the level of reason.” Denouncing the Nazi regime as “smeared by the orgy of sadism,” the strongly worded editorial asserts that “every time the ruling party gets into a tight place the persecution intensifies.” It attributes the “periodical open seasons for violence” to the necessity inherent in the dictatorial system of throwing increasingly larger sops to dissatisfied extremists.
The New York post declared, in an editorial on “The New Barbarism,” that the “sadistic mania in german officialdom” was a menace to civilization.
