Nadav Safran, a scholar of the Middle East who was a longtime professor at Harvard, died July 5 at 77. Safran was the author of several books used in college courses, including “Israel: The Embattled Ally.” In 1986, Safran resigned from Harvard’s Center for Middle East Studies after admitting to accepting grants from the CIA. He remained a professor at the school until 2002.
