The ever elusive “It” has invaded even the sanctuary of the Hebrew Union College, where it seems that rabbinical candidates must not only have “elements of personality, loyalty, character, idealism and religious spirit” but must not be guilty of shyness, an accent, speech defect, and nervous instability.
Under these circumstances eight rabbinical aspirants have been dismissed from the Hebrew Union College. Dr. Julian Morgenstern, president of the college, stated that “all the eight students are fine boys. Their character and scholarship is excellent.
“It is largely an economic situation,” he went on to say. “Every year we weed out students and limit the number of those admitted. Our judgment of which ones should be dismissed is based on the promise they show for the ministry.”
