Arab leaders will not oppose a Legislative Council to which the members are appointed, and not elected, it was learned after a meeting of Moslem opposition chieftains who swear allegiance to Ragheb Bey Nashashibi, defeated Mayor of Jerusalem.
It was agreed that the proposal for appointed members be supported and that the government should be asked not to hold elections for the council, but to name members on the basis of its own selection or nomination by Arab parties.
This policy, it is contended here, is evidently intended to ensure a seat, if not the presidency, in the Council for Ragheb Bey who is believed unwilling to try his chances in further elections after his recent defeat.
