President Nasser of the United Arab Republic reacted to Iran’s recognition of Israel by calling the UAR Ambassador to Iran home “for consultations” yesterday, it was reported here today.
Simultaneously, Arab League Council representatives met in Cairo to discuss a proposal that the Arab countries break off diplomatic relations with Iran which is a Moslem but not an Arab state. However, no immediate action in that direction was taken.
Government spokesmen said that Mahmoud Hammud, the UAR envoy to Iran, would return to his post at Teheran soon. The Cairo press meanwhile charged that Shah Mohammed Riza Pahlevi of Iran extended full diplomatic recognition to Israel to get more aid from Western countries.
