Natan Sharansky was appointed board chair of the Beth Hatefutsoth museum in Tel Aviv. Sharansky received the unanimous support of the museum’s board of directors, according to a statement released Monday. The museum tells the story of the Jewish Diaspora. “I am thrilled to welcome Natan as our chairman, said Hasia Israeli, the museum’s director general. “He feels the importance of our two-fold mission — to build a world-class museum that tells the global Jewish story using the most engaging methods and to find new ways to create mutual identity among Jews for generations to come — wherever they live.” Sharansky, a former Russian refusenik who moved to Israel in 1986, retired from the Knesset in November.
