Declaring that America must assume its “responsibility toward providing Europe with necessary food, although knowing full well that it would mean prolongation of rationing at home,” Mrs. Joseph M. Welt, president of the National Council of Jewish Women, today urged President Truman,in a letter, to “allocate enough food during this fourth quarter to relieve the present emergency abroad.”
Pointing out that we Americans are cating incomparably better than the people in Europe,” the letter urged that rationing of “foods needed for relief be continued where necessary to provide for overseas shipments.”
