A three-day National Economic Planning Conference for Israel will be held in Washington in the middle of September, it was announced here today by the Israel Bond Organization which is sponsoring the conference. Israel Finance Minister Levi Eshkol will be one of the principal speakers.
“The forthcoming Conference marks the tenth anniversary of the meeting in Jerusalem in September, 1950, at which Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion projected the idea of an Israel bond campaign, ” Dr. Joseph Schwartz, vice-president of the Israel Bond Organization, stated. “This meeting, which was attended by Jewish leaders from many parts of the world, was followed in October, 1950 by a national conference in Washington, D. C. , at which major Jewish organizations made known their endorsement of the Israel bond drive.
“The achievements of the past ten years with the aid of Israel bonds have made it clear that these bonds are an indispensable element in Israel’s historic program for economic development. Our conference is intended to lay the basis for unparalleled accomplishment during the last hundred days of 1960 in providing Israel bond dollars for Israel’s advance toward economic independence. “
