National Minorities Congress to Meet in Geneva

The fourth international congress of national minorities in European countries will meet here the end fo August.

Previous congresses were held here simultaneously with a plenary session of the Assembly of the League of Nations. A large representation of the Jewish minorities in East European countries is expected to participate in this year’s congress.

The amount of $500,000 was pledged toward the $1,035,000 goal of the coming Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charlties Drive at a meeting of the Pre-campaign Solicitation Committee in the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce building, on Monday The committee stated the pledge would be met by solicitations from the 500 largest contributors in Brooklyn before the opening of the campaign Oct. 17.

Ground will be broken early in September for a Talmud Torah to be erected by the Beth David Sisterhood of Denver, Colorado.

Plans for erection of the building formulated at a meeting of the organization.

The Beth David Sisterhood was organized eighteen months ago, with the one principal purpose of erecting a Talmud Torah.

The new building under present plans will consist of two stories, containing modern classrooms.

Rabbi Werne, formerly of the Jewish center of Jamaica, N. Y., will occupy the pulpit of the Hillside-Hollis Jewish center of Hollis, N. Y., according to an announcement made by the directors of the latter institution.

Work on the new $300,000 building of the lamaica Jewish center of Jamaica, N. Y., is tow under way, stated Magistrate Benjamin Marrin, president of the organization. The Cays Construction company, builders of the new center, believe that it will be completed early in 1929.
