The Jewish National Workers Alliance has shown a marked increase both in membership and in assets in the course of the past year, according to a report delivered at the annual convention now in session here by Louis Segal, general secretary of the Alliance.
Two hundred delegates representing 120 branches and women’s clubs in 50 cities in the United States and Canada are attending the convention.
Mr. Segal stated that the Alliance has gained nearly 2,000 new members since last July and that its assets in the amount of $400,000 show an increase of $25,000 over last year. The sum of $15,000 in loans has been distributed among members of the organization for relief purposes, Mr. Segal revealed.
M. L. Brown, president of the Alliance, in his address opening the convention told of the progress of the organization, whose twentieth anniversary will be celebrated next winter.
Addresses were also made by S. Boncheck, in behalf of “Unser Camp” Committee; L. Rubenstein, representing the Central Committee of the Poale Zion and the Zeire Zion; I. Hamlin, representing the Gewerkschaften campaign; M. L. Brown, the Pioneer Women’s Organization; M. Cohen of Young Poale Zion Alliance; P. Gingold, the Central School Committee and Jewish Teachers Seminary.
Dr. Israel Appelbaum, vice-president of the Alliance, presided at the sessions today.
