Dr. Oscar I. Janowsky, Professor of History at the City College of New York was named chairman of a commission which will conduct a nationwide study of Jewish education in the United States, it was announced today by Michael A. Stavitsky, president of the American Association for Jewish Education.
The survey will include the history, development, present conditions, effectiveness and status of educational institutions maintained by Jewish communities and organizations, as a supplement to the public school system, for the instruction of American Jewish youth in the religion, culture and traditions of the Jewish people. It was projected by the unanimous vote of the delegates, representing all sectors of Jewish life, at the first National Conference on Jewish Education, held January 14 and 15 in New York City.
