Following close on official revoking of the citizenship of Eastern European Jews, the Nazi government announced yesterday in an official statement that German-born Jews may also expect soon to be deprived of their citizenship rights. The statement announced that a new citizenship law will be promulgated shortly which will declare non-Aryans are “Reichsangeherige” (associated with the Reich) instead of Reich citizens, thus converting them from citizens into residents no longer enjoying the rights of citizenship.
Whether their status will be similar to that of the Staatenlose (men without citizenship in any country) or whether they will still be permitted to enjoy German protection has not yet been indicated by the government. However, the statement made it clear that only Jews, and no other national minority, will be affected by the new law.
“The law is still in preparation and therefore details have not yet been established,” the government statement yesterday announced. “However, a certain line of demarcation will be drawn between persons who naturally belong to the German order and persons who at present are only legally citizens of the Reich. This will follow the usual racial policy of the government, distinguishing between Aryans and non-Aryans.”
The statement emphasized that the new law will not concern other national or political minorities.
