A jury court here sentenced Gustave Fiedel, a former Nazi guard in the Chelmno death camp in occupied Poland, to a term of one year and six months for participation in mass murder.
Court officials said Fiedel’s pre-trial detention would be taken into account so that he can count on an early release. The sentence is regarded as extremely light and the prosecution was expected to appeal. The sentence does not carry the usual “at hard labor” condition.
