Extensive quotations in the Soviet press from highly appreciative reviews published in German papers of the performance of Wagner a opera “The Valkyries” in Moscow reveal the curious fact that Reichsminister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbles has permitted his myrmidons to waive anti-Jewish prejudices in the cultural sphere so far as prominent Soviet Jewish citizens are concerned.
Review in a number of Nazi papers pay high tribute to the Jewish producer, Serge Eisenstein, but all of them are outdone by the Hamburger Fremdenblatt which says:
“The very strongest and most important feature of the performance is the missenses directed by Eisenstein. His culture, intelligence and talent made the performance an immense artistic achievement. The producer has deep and unequalled understanding of the German national epic poem.”
The German Ambassador in Moscow congratulated both Eisenstein and the Jewish singer, Reissner.
