Dr. Carl Clauberg, former S.S. doctor who sterilized hundreds of Jewish women at the Auschwitz concentration camp, has been arrested, it was announced by the Schlewsig-Holstein Ministry of Justice. The 57-year-old “scientist” was also chief medical officer of the Ravensbruck concentration camp, and was recently released by the Russians among a number of prisoners of war.
Dr. Clauberg is now in a mental institution on medical advice and the Justice Ministry announced that to a psychiatric check shortly after his arrest had revealed the possibility, according to the examining psychiatrist, that he may not have been “fully responsible for his actions.” Last month, the Central. Council of Jews in Germany demanded that Clauberg be tried for acts of “persistent and grave bodily injury” in his sterilization experiments on hundreds of Jewish women camp inmates.
