Nazi newspapers, after long ignoring it, have finally taken caustic notice of the storms of applause interrupting every performance of Schiller’s drama “Don Carlos” during the new famous “freedom of thought” speech.

The applause invariably brokes out at the point in the drama when Marquis Posa demands of King Philip of Spain: “Sire, give us freedom of thought!”

Admission is made by the press that the applause represents a political demonstration against the intellectual and spiritual regimentation of the National Socialist regime. The demonstration, for that reason, are bitterly assailed.
