Nazis’ Arab Announcer Once Worked for Jewish Publishers

The Arab announcer of the Berlin radio station, Hassan, who translates Hitler’s speeches into Arabic and whose broadcasts are part of the Nazi Near East propaganda drive, was formerly the protege of wealthy Berlin Jews and was employed by the Jewish-owned publishing house Ullstein-Verlag, it is revealed in the German emigre paper, Das Neue Tagebuch, published in Paris.

Hassan was known for his friendly relations with Berlin Jews. The poems he wrote for the Ullstein Press were sometimes inspired by his Jewish friends. Hassan, under which pseudonym he now broadcasts, was educated in the German colony in Palestine. He wrote a play based on the life of Joseph Trumpeldor and Jewish nationalistic ideas, for which Israel Zangwill wrote an introduction.
