The trial of 12 former Nazis, charged with murdering Jews in the Sobibor death camp in occupied Poland, will begin next September in Hagen, it was announced here today. Some 250,000 Jewish victims were murdered in the Sobibor camp, which was located near Lublin.
Eleven of the defendants belonged to Hitler’s Elite Guard, the SS, and the twelfth is a former Nazi policeman. The court will call 34 witnesses from West Germany, Israel and the United States during the trial, which is expected to last several months.
