Sixteen Jewish university professors and dozens of Jews holding other positions were dismissed yesterday in Hamburg. Jews also were discharged from various state positions.
Professors who were dismissed included Ernst Cassirer, known to philosophical students for his studies of Immanuel Kant and his works on epistemology; Walther Berendsohn, well known for his biography of Knut Hamsun and his critiques of Scandinavian literature.
