While Royal Scott Gulden and William Ingles were going through frantic last-minute antics to obtain sufficient names to enable them to run for Congress, the Jewish Daily Bulletin uncovered additional information regarding Gulden.
Conclusive proof was given by Frank Gulden Jr., president of the Gulden mustard manufacturing concern, that Royal Scott Gulden is in no way connected with the firm, nor has he been affiliated with it in any capacity whatever in the past.
John L. Spivak, in a recent article in the New Masses, referred to Royal Scott Gulden as a member of the mustard manufacturing family, and described how, in an interview, he had asked him whether he didn’t think his anti-Jewish attitude would cause Jews “to eat their hot goods without Gulden’s mustard.”
“In times like these,” Spivak quoted Gulden as having replied, “we must all make sacrifices.”
