The Jewish communities in West Germany will receive about 2,000,000 marks, for the relief of needy Jews, from the West German Government’s budget for the fiscal year 1953-54, the Minister of the Interior announced here today. Last year the Jewish communities received about one-quarter of this sum for similar purposes.
Victims of Nazi persecution now living in Israel have received the first payments for indemnification for illegal imprisonment and material losses suffered under the Nazi regime, it was reported here. The recipients are members of the Organization of Former Inmates of Concentration Camps, which numbers 6,500 members in Israel.
