Some 130 people, including “fraternal delegates” from the Ku Klux Klan in the US and former members of the American Nazi Party, attended the 15th anniversary meeting of the right-wing Western Guard (formerly known as the Edmund Burke Society) held here several days ago. Paul Fromme, a founder of the group, declared that his organization now had the Ontario wing of the Social Credit Party “in its grasp.” The Ontario wing has no representatives in the federal or provincial parliaments.
Stating that Canadian Prime Minister “Pierre Elliot Trudeau is only a puppet leader,” Fromme said “the real power behind the scenes is the man who signs his name on your dollar bills”–an allusion to Louis Rasminsky, governor of the Bank of Canada who is Jewish. The “Rev,” Robert Miles of Howell, Michigan, an official of the Klan, who is awaiting trial on charges of bombing 10 school buses in Pontiac, Mich., told the meeting that Canada was “the last stronghold of the white, Christian supremist culture and a place for white Americans to come to if the struggle against the Jewish conspired mongrelization of white and Black is allowed to continue.”
This is the first time the Western Guard has openly fraternized and shown solidarity with avowed anti-Semites. In the past, the organization claimed to be only “rightist, conservative and anti-Communist.” Karl H. von Harten, announced he had resigned as president of the St. Andrew-St. Patrick district of the Social Credit Association of Ontario because the association has become the political arm of a “Jew-hating, red-baiting, racist and fascist organization.”
