All Jews in Paris were today ordered to turn in their radios to the police within 24 hours, while all Jewish war veterans who served in the French army during the present and the last World Wars have been ordered to appear within one week at police headquarters bringing with them their discharge certificates. The two orders were announced over the Paris radio.
The Jewish ex-soldiers, when reporting to the police, are instructed to bring with them also their records of military service including documents relating to service on the front, their being decorated or wounded.
A report from Paris today stated that the Commissariat for Jewish Affairs which the Vichy Government has established will be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior. Hitherto it has been under the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers.
(The United Press reported today from Vichy that the Petain Government has persuaded the German authorities in Paris to abandon their plans for a “mass execution” of Jewish hostages in reprisal for anti-Nazi activities. The Germans allegedly agreed to call off their plans after the Petain Government proved to them that the person who assassinated a German naval officer in a Paris subway was not a Jew.
