The Temps warns against the activities in Tunisia of an Arab nationalist group named “Destour, ” which is engaged in anti-French propaganda and anti-Jewish agitation.
Sporadic anti-Jewish outbreaks in remote villages, chiefly on market days, when it is easy to incite the Arabs to sack Jewish stands, are due entirely to that party’s activity, it is stated.
The Destour is making the Palestine troubles a pretext to exploit anti-Jewish feeling among the Arabs and it is feared that if any trouble arises in Tunisia, the Jews will be the first victims, according to the report.
The Temps recommends a firm hand as “in Moslem countries it is useless to be weak.”
