New Book Defines Place of Synagogue in Modern Jewish Life

The synagogue “is the one Jewish institution that can best preserve the Jewish heritage and defend the Jew’s fundamental right to live in this world,” declares Rabbi Jacob D. Schwarz, director of the Commission on Synagogue Activities of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, in a new book, “The Synagogue in Modern Jewish Life,” written under the commission’s auspices and published by the Union.
