A new element of mystery has entered into the Halsmann tragedy, which revives the hope that Halsmann may be pardoned. The Vienna police yesterday arrested a youth named Schneider, who had confessed voluntarily that he had participated in the murder of Halsmann’s father. While the police doubt Schneider’s trustworthiness, Halsmann’s attorney, Pressburger, hopes that the case will be renewed, since Schneider’s explanations in connection with the murder and robbery are very detailed.
At the same time, the Innsbruck court has sentenced Platzer to eighteen month’s imprisonment, because the state’s attorney informed the court that Platzer was hired by the Halsmann family to give evidence.
