Disorders in northern Palestine, Jaffa and in the Jerusalem district today shattered the peace which had prevailed throughout the country for more than 48 hours.
A strong daylight attack on a police station in Salcha village near Safed indicated that Christmas operations had failed to destroy northern bands. One Arab was seriously wounded by police and the remainder fled to the hills. Bandits in the Jerusalem district fired on the Lydda-Jerusalem train near Deir-es-Sheik, but no casualties were reported among the passengers.
Two bombs thrown into the Jaffa Central Police Station failed to explode. The incident was seen as confirming Arab press reports that terrorists were seeking refuge in Jaffa after dispersal of bands in the north because of the new British tactics of occupying villages and preventing bandits from securing food, ammunition and shelter. A half-hour heavy sniping attack was directed at Neve Yacob, apparently aimed at Palestine Broadcasting System Apparatus. Police and troops replied. No casualties were reported.
