New dissension among the Jewish deputies in the Polish parliament came to the foreground at a session of the Club of Jewish Deputies Friday.
At this session Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum, president of the Club, touched upon the recent conversations carried on by Sholom Asch, well known Yiddish novelist, with members of the Government. No official announcement was made but it is understood that Deputy Gruenbaum related to the Club members the concrete proposals treated of in these conversations.
The deputies from Galicia headed by Dr. Leon Reich sharply attacked the policy of Deputy Gruenbaum. They demanded his immediate resignation from the presidency as necessary to facilitate the inauguration of new reconciliatory methods.
This is urgent in view of the desperate economic situation of the Jewish population in Poland. The debate was postoned for the next session of the Club.
From recent reports in the Polish Jewish press it appears that new negotiations for a Polish-Jewish agreement were inaugurated by Mr. Sholom Asch. Though no details are officially available it was asserted in the reports that leading members of the present cabinet are taking an active interest in bringing about a working agreement with the Club of Jewish Deputies along lines similar to the Ugoda of the Skrynski-Reich fame. The difficulties found for the consummation of the present plan were attributed by the Galician deputies to the presence of Deputy Gruenbaum at the helm of the Club of Jewish Deputies.
