The new French Interior Minister, Gaston Deferre, has warned neo-Nazi groups in France that the new Socialist Government will take all necessary measures to repress anti-Semitic or fascist organizations.
The Minister, who addressed the National Police Academy and the Police Trade Union representatives over the weekend, said, “There is no place within our national community for groups or people who desecrate synagogues, attack tombs in cemeteries and do other anti-Semitic and racist activities.”
In an apparent reference to reports that some police officers belong to neo-fascist movements, he added, “These people have even less of a place within the police.” He said they would be investigated and tried if they were proved to have been engaged in illegal activities.
