The opening of a new, $2,800,000 road linking Tel Aviv and Nathanya was marked during the week-end with celebrations in which Labor Minister Golda Myerson participated. The new highway is the greatest road-building project since establishment of the Jewish state.
The establishment of a number of new settlements in various parts of Israel during the week-end was announced here today. The Jewish Agency’s settlement division founded five new colonies, four of which are peopled by new immigrants. A new settlement in the strategic Jerusalem corridor was established by 60 Yemenite immigrant families with the aid of religious labor groups while recent immigrants from India set up a new colony on the northern coastal plain accommodating 100 families.
A cornerstone was laid today at historic Caesarea for what is planned as a modern industrial center near the Haifa-Hadera highway. A new colony founded in the Sharon Valley was dedicated in memory of the late Haganah commander, Eliahu Golomb, and will be known as “Nir Eliahu.”
