The State authorities have launched an investigation into the distribution in this state of the anti-Semitic sheet, “Headlines,” published by Joseph P. Kamp, vice-president of the Constitutional Educational League and a notorious anti-Semite. Recent issues of this sheet have used anti-Semitism to attack the candidacy of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. Senator Robert A Taft told a press conference yesterday that he was “particularly disgusted” by this sheet.
Deputy Attorney General Nelson Stamler, who is investigating the distribution of the publication in this state, called it a “racketeering smear publication.” Quantities of the publication have been mailed from Englewood, N.J.
Action by Federal and local law enforcement agencies against “professional hatemongers” who have “leaped on the gravy train of defamation in an election year and are finding it a highly profitable ride,” was urged by the Newark Jewish News in an editorial dealing with anti-Semitism in the current political campaign. The paper declared that “there is unmistakable evidence that the professional hate-peddlers are moving into high gear. It called for “firm corrective steps.”
