The New Jersey Rabbinical Council made plans today to muster support in the State Assembly for a bill which would exempt from the State’s new Sunday closing law businessmen who observed as their Sabbath a day other than Sunday.
Absence of such a qualification from the legislation which Gov. Robert B. Meyner recently signed provoked a considerable amount of resentment in Jewish circles and the Governor was strongly criticized for approving the measure without a public hearing.
The rabbinical group also disclosed today that a large delegation would attend a hearing here on July 13 to voice opposition to the so-called humane slaughter bill now pending in the legislature.
